New Cart Path Posts

Six or seven years ago I had the brilliant idea that split rail fence would be a better long term solution to keeping carts on the path for certain holes than rope and stake.  I most likely poached the idea from someone else like all the great ideas I've had, but seven years later I can say that it was a failed idea.  I could handle folks driving through rope and stake because really, what other purpose did it serve.  As soon as we got the split rail up, no sooner were we replacing split rail that people also thought they could drive through.

It was most likely the way we installed the split rail which gave folks the thought that they could drive through it so we are now going towards a more permanent installation.  There are areas for folks to walk through every 30-40 ft and it actually looks more attractive.  We've had the seventh hole on the canyon course like this for two weeks and only one person has challenged the strength of the split rail.  That's a win in my book.

Road Closure

The fence is now up on 7 Mountain.  The great thing about having our Bobcat A300 was that we were able to just rent the auger attachment shown to get the job done rather easily.    That was one of my selling points when I pitched the machine.  There are over 70 different attachments I can use and I don't have to own every piece.  In just over a year and a half we put 280 hours on the Bobcat.  Easily our most used non-turf piece of equipment.



We will be putting a native seed mix on the hillside and then we'll pray for some rain to allow it to germinate.  Don't mind me if you see me doing some crazy dance.

7 Mountain Course Improvement

The picture to the left shows the style of fence we will be installing around the hillside between 7 & 8 Mountain.  We will be doing 6 or 7 sections of fence with an 18" gap between each section.  We will also be planting more trees along the hillside. This area has become a popular highway of sorts and the cart traffic has really made it an eyesore.  The fence will keep the carts out and we will hopefully be able to regain the beauty it once had. It should also help make it into a legitimate par 5 by not being able to cut the corner anymore.  We hope to have this work complete within the next three weeks.
