The Sweet Smell of Summer

It is only fitting that the first day of summer finally brings our highest temperatures of the year so far.  Along with the high temps comes the smell that I remember from the first day I walked onto this property almost six years ago.  It is a minty, woodsy smell in the morning coming from the weeds and native grasses in the surrounding hills.  You also get a bit of the wet asphalt smell from the water hitting the cart paths and road.  Am I reminding you of your favorite wine or cigar with these descriptions?  Hold that thought because in the afternoon you start to smell the cows or chicken farms to the east of us.  I was flush from the memories these smells brought and I hope you enjoy them as much as I do the next time you are here.

Bay Tree Bites the Dust

As with a lot of things at Cinnabar, we were extremely lucky with the latest tree that fell to the ground on Tuesday.  We lost a large bay tree on the right side of the cart path.  It did not break the cart path and only did minimal damage to the nice oak trees along side it.  You'll notice half of the tree still remains and Arborwell will be out soon to remove it.

Window Dressing

Last week we did what I like to call a little window dressing on 7 mountain.  We had some extra gorilla hair and decided to clean up the Squirrel Condos by the rock and tree grouping on the right side of the fairway.

First Bunker Project of the Year!

Last week we got to do our first bunker project of the year and after almost 6 months of no projects, it was really fun. Monday of last week we removed the sod and sand of the chipping green bunker while I was away at a conference at La Rinconada Golf Club. When I saw the bunker Tuesday morning at 5:30 and I decided to make it a much bigger project by doubling the size of the bunker. It was spur of the moment and as soon as I dug in with the backhoe I was wondering what the hell I had started. 2 hours into digging though, things started to take shape and I was feeling confident that the results were going to be great. As the picture shows, the results are amazing. The guys did a great job with the bunker and we can now have two people practicing bunker shots at once. Maybe now with more people practicing I won't have to field complaints about the bunkers because you will all be experts!
